Abstract
This collection consists of correspondence and other papers of jurist and political leader Meshech Weare of New Hampshire.
Biographical Sketch
Meshech Weare (1713-1786) was one of the most important figures in Revolutionary War New Hampshire. He was the first president (governor) of New Hampshire and also served as president of the council, chief justice, and chairman of the Committee of Safety.
Collection Description
This collection consists of two volumes of tipped-in correspondence, 1775-1785, and a letterbook of manuscript copies of letters, 1779-1782, all reproduced on one reel of microfilm. Among Weare's most frequent correspondents are Josiah Bartlett, Abiel Foster, John Taylor Gilman, Samuel Huntington, John Jay, Henry Laurens, Samuel Livermore, Nathaniel Peabody, Jeremiah Powell, John Sullivan, Charles Thomson, and George Washington.
